Beneq, a global leader in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) solutions, is looking for a skilled and proactive Equipment Engineer to join our Equipment Team within the Semiconductor ALD Business Unit. The role is based at our headquarters in Espoo, Finland. This is a great opportunity to work hands-on with industry-leading ALD process tools and contribute directly to tool reliability and customer success.
Your Role at Beneq
As an Equipment Engineer, you will ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of our semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with a primary focus on Transform ALD tools. Your work will maximize tool uptime through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and process hardware testing, while partnering with process development, operations, and vendors to continuously improve equipment efficiency.
Your Key Responsibilities
Tool Maintenance and Uptime
- Ensure high tool availability to meet customer sample and production schedules.
- Perform preventive and regular maintenance according to schedules and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor equipment performance metrics and implement improvements to reduce downtime.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve equipment issues promptly to minimize disruption.
- Collaborate with process engineers, technicians, assembly, and vendors on complex problems.
- Document and analyze root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
Process / Cleanroom Support
- Work closely with Process Development Engineers to ensure safe, stable, and efficient operations.
Process Hardware Testing
- Test, verify, and report on feasibility and performance of process-related hardware components.
- Drive hardware and reliability improvements together with Process Development and Engineering teams.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner across teams to optimize tool utilization and reliability.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and performance trends.
- Contribute to cross-functional improvement projects.
What We’re Looking For
- BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in equipment maintenance or engineering, preferably in the semiconductor industry.
- Strong troubleshooting capability and structured root-cause thinking.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Clear communicator and effective collaborator across functions.
- Knowledge of thin film processes and cleanroom work is a plus.
Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with wafer-fab equipment and chemicals (deposition, lithography, etching, vacuum systems).
- Experience with maintenance tracking / CMMS tools.
- Relevant certifications or training in equipment maintenance or semiconductor processes.
